MAKASSED HOSPITAL

Makassed Hospital, the largest Muslim endowment (Waqf) hospital in Al Quds where 80% of Al Quds Muslims receive healthcare, is facing a severe financial crisis.

The hospital features departments for cardiology and neurology, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, orthopedics, surgery, brain check-ups, MRI applications, and natural treatment methods.

"There is a great healthcare service here. If this healthcare service is disrupted, permanent health problems will arise for our children, our wounded, and other patients," say the officials of Makassed Hospital, noting that they have accumulated a debt of 121 million shekels (240 million Turkish Lira) so far.

Struggling with constant debt due to limited sources of revenue, Makassed Hospital strives to provide healthcare services not only to families in Al Quds who apply to them due to health issues, but also to patients from the West Bank and Gaza who lack the financial means to pay.

Palestinians who were injured in recent events at Al-Aqsa Mosque and different areas of Al Quds received treatment at Makassed Hospital and continue to do so.

The hospital tries to continue providing healthcare services to Palestinians of Al Quds —85 percent of whom live below the poverty line—by going into debt to cover drug supplies, the purchase of medical equipment, and the salaries of approximately 1,000 staff members.
